Install DCP Cine Player
The signed Debian package offers Workstation mode for a normal desktop and Appliance mode for a computer dedicated to cinema playback.
Workstation
Installs the local application and desktop launcher without creating an appliance user, enabling autologin or changing the desktop power/session policy.
Use it for evaluation, content checking and a computer that retains its normal desktop purpose.
Appliance
Creates the player account, configures supported display-manager autologin, starts the player session and applies dedicated screen power behaviour.
Use only on a clean machine reserved for D‑Cine Player.
Current public build: 4.2.32 release
Version 4.2.32 is classified as a release, dated 31 October 2026. It corrects the footer information link to tools.d-cine.net and supersedes withdrawn 4.2.31. It includes optional UxPlay AirPlay Casting, an explicit interface/IPv4 selection and a shared James Gardiner attribution and information link. Casting is disabled by default; qualify real sender devices, audio/video synchronisation and physical outputs before use. Config → System → Contributions acknowledges the licensed Kakadu decoder, the DeckLink SDK and the principal open-source projects. Included copyright notices can be read or downloaded offline and load only when requested. It retains clean local application quit, the idle HUD correction, display/EDID diagnostics and the revised APT installation instructions. It retains live system/media disk charts, consistency/recovery actions, identity/discovery APIs, readable Status events, chronological Dashboard scheduling, dark-theme, programming, ingest and audit features of earlier releases. Qualify the exact release and hardware before relying on it for production.
Download 4.2.32 release · amd64Use the player’s signed upgrade workflow to check the published release class and pinned signing key. For a manual install, verify the approved package and install it with APT using the commands below. The package filename shown as VERSION becomes 4.2.32 for this build.
Install the package
Open a terminal in the directory containing the downloaded package. Replace VERSION with the version in its filename.

sudo apt install /var/cache/apt/archives/dcp-cine-player_VERSION_amd64.debThe install command copies the package into APT’s cache with readable permissions before APT opens it. This prevents APT’s “Download is performed unsandboxed as root” permission notice when the download is inside a private home directory. Your home-directory permissions and APT’s sandbox remain unchanged.
APT installs the cached package, downloads missing dependencies from your configured Ubuntu repositories, and finishes configuring the player. Use this method for fresh installs and manual upgrades. The repositories must be enabled and reachable.
The installer asks for a mode. After a workstation install, start D‑Cine Player from the application menu. After an appliance install, reboot into the dedicated session.
Offline documentation: the installer copies the complete guide and images to ~/Documents/D-Cine Player/Documentation for the selected desktop user and prints that location when installation finishes.
Recover from missing dependencies
dpkg -i does not download dependencies. If required libraries are missing, it can leave the player unpacked but unconfigured. If an earlier installation attempt left missing dependencies, run:
sudo apt update
sudo apt --fix-broken installReview and accept APT's proposed dependency installation to finish configuring the player. If required packages are unavailable, check that the machine runs Ubuntu 26.04 amd64 and its Ubuntu repositories are enabled and reachable.
First commissioning pass
Open
Launch the app or reboot the appliance; open the browser control where applicable.
Secure
Change default web passwords, activate the licence and protect the player certificate/private key.
Configure
Select display, audio device/profile, time, ingest sources and automation.
Test
Run picture/audio calibration, ingest known content and verify KDM and output protection.
Schedule
Create a show, run it manually, then validate scheduler behaviour.
Record
Save commissioning evidence, backup identity/configuration and document recovery ownership.
